Spider Epidemic?
Recently I have noticed a huge growth in the number of spiders both at home and at work so I wondered why this may be. Apparently spiders and insects in general thrive in warm wet climates, and this summer has been pretty wet so far. One expert had this to say:
“Virtually any insect would do well under these kinds of conditions,” said Deborah Waller, an associate professor at Old Dominion University. “It’s wet, and it’s warm. It’s not too hot, and it’s not too dry.
“It’s just perfect for most insects.”
We just had our landlord spray our house for spiders and ants, though all we had was transient spiders. I say transient because there are no webs anywhere in our house, and that is because there is no insects here for the spiders to eat. They wander through our house tying to find a nice place for a web and we end up killing them if we see them. My fiance’ is terrified of them. Mind you these are not small innocent looking spiders, actually they are quite ugly and usually about the size of a quarter.

There is a huge population of spiders at work and I will take my camera tonight and try to capture some of them on it. There is something awe inspiring an terrifying about spiders and I find myself fascinated by them. More on this later.
